Fic Series: Murphy's Laws of Combat
Fandom: Final Fantasy VII
Title: Murphy's Laws of Combat: 2 - If it's stupid but it works, it isn't stupid.
Rating: G
Summary: "There are some things which any sane commanding officer should not have to deal with."

There are some things which any sane commanding officer should not have to deal with. One of them, Sephiroth was fast coming to realise, was Second Lieutenant Zack Fair, and his rather unorthodox approach to combat. The boy would try anything at all, and very few of his rather... novel solutions were found in any military manual. It made reading his reports something of a nightmare.

In many ways, however, reading the reports was more satisfactory than interviewing the Lieutenant. The young man had some kind of ability to explain even the most unlikely schemes in a manner which made them sound perfectly logical, and completely obvious. He had been the subject of any number of charges of insubordination for just such a reason - mainly from officers who should never have been put in charge of SOLDIERs in the first place.

Now, if he could just puzzle out the significance of the chocobo in this current rigmarole...

*snickers* Oh, that's priceless. Zack is so -good- at making things seem logical. It's due to that special Zack-logic of his.

It's when Sephiroth starts to think in Zack-logic that he should worry.

Y'know, that's possibly the most frightening explanation for The Nibelheim Incident I've ever heard.

Seph, honey, you know it's not possible to puzzle out Zack's logic if you're not Zack himself. *pets* *grins* Nice to see Seph realizes the value of a good Zack, though. He keeps pointing out incompetent Soldier Officers.

It's not actually officers in SOLDIER he's pointing out the incompetencies of. It's regular forces officers. According to canon, at the time of the game, Zack's parents haven't heard from him in ten years, which means The Nibelheim Incident happened after he'd been away from home for five years. I figure there's enough time in that span for SOLDIER to have been built up from a small, specialist force (with each member attached rather loosely to a particular unit of the standard forces) into a full corps in its own right.

Hah, that is very true. And it makes sense, as I don't see hojo's crew just pumping out Soldiers. That'd take time to do and build up. *nods* But regardless, Zack's have their uses. XDD
