*grin* I tend to "hear" a lot of the characters in my head when I write, and Dee's one of the garrulous ones. So yeah, writing him was easy - I just asked "okay, so what do you want to do to Ryo?" and sat back and took notes. The bet with JJ (I think it's actually a whole-section betting pool - Drake is another one involved, although he's saying thong for reasons known only to himself) sort of slipped out. I suspect JJ's choice is more out of malice than interest.
And thanks for the recs. I found some of your stuff through Springkink over on LJ, and I've been following various links you dropped in the comments there. One of the perils of coming late to a fandom, I suppose, is seeing the stuff which comes before, and realising which way the fandom writes a character. A lot of the stuff I found through Google was very much slanted toward Ryo as whiny uke (including at least one example which had the poor boy being very much fangirl Japanese) and it irritated me a bit. I tend to see Randy as being at least second-generation Japanese-American - the manga canonically lists him as having chestnut-brown hair, and describes him as part-Japanese. He comes across as more American, culturally, than Japanese, so I suspect the whole "Ryo" thing was more a gesture toward grandparents than a serious cultural immersion.
Thanks for the rec for 27th precinct, but I don't think this is going to be one of my major writing fandoms at this point. If it does start breeding bunnies at me, I'll look the place up.
